FAQs
Lash Extensions
WHAT ARE LASH EXTENSIONS?
The adhesion of synthetic eyelashes to natural eyelashes to enhance the natural eyelashes and eyes.
HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?
Longevity is dependent on the client's aftercare and their lash cycle. You can expect to see 1 to 5 natural lashes shed per day. As the natural lashes grow longer, you may find the extensions twisting and turning. On average, it is recommended to book a fill within 3 weeks to remove and replace these outgrown lashes. This will keep your lashes looking fresh and consistent. Please note: you may see more fallout during autumn and spring as our bodies adjust to the cooler and warmer temperatures. Seasonal loss applies to the eyelashes too!
WHAT IS A FILL?
Fill appointments must be within 3 weeks of the initial application of lash extensions. During a fill, outgrown lashes are removed and replaced with new ones.
AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE?
Lash extensions are not recommended for those with weak or super sparse lashes. Extensions will only extend and enhance existing lashes as they are placed on the lash hairs and not on the skin; therefore, clients with no natural lashes are not a candidate. Lash extensions are contraindicated for those with severe allergies/sensitivities to any of the products used in the procedure, lash pickers/rubbers, recently completed or undergoing chemotherapy, have alopecia, or if you have an eye condition where the eyes do not appear healthy.
HOW LONG ARE APPOINTMENTS?
Depending on the technique, a full set of lashes can take up to 3 hours. Fill appointments up to 1.5 hours.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES?
Classic - a single synthetic lash glued onto a natural lash for a natural mascara appearance, great for achieving length. Volume - two or more synthetic lashes applied to a single natural lash for a voluminous and full appearance. Lashes are thinner in diameter compared to classics; therefore, allowing more to be applied onto a single lash. Hybrid - a mixture of classic and volume. Mega volume - gives a very voluminous and fuller appearance using even thinner lashes; fans can consist of 10+ lashes. For those that desire the bold and the beautiful look, aka the "blackout" look. This style definitely lives up to its name.
I AM UNSURE OF WHAT STYLE I WANT
It is recommended to do some research online on the different styles to get an idea of what you are looking for before discussing with your lash artist at the time of consultation during your appointment. Consider if this is for a special occasion or for daily wear. Please keep in mind that each set of eyes are unique and the results will vary depending on the client’s eye shape, sparseness of the lashes and the amount of natural lashes they have.
MY EYES ARE SENSITIVE, WHAT IF I REACT?
A patch test is recommended for every new client to see if you will react to the glue or irritate from the eyelash extensions. Hypoallergenic glues is available, please ask your lash artist.
I AM GOING ON VACATION, WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO GET THEM DONE?
The best time to get eyelash extensions would be at least 2 days prior to departing for the glue to completely cure. If you have not had lash extensions applied before, it is recommended to come in for a patch test and full set 2 weeks prior to see if any allergies or sensitivities occur, then come in for a refill appointment at least 2 days prior to leaving.
CAN I GET MY EYES WET WHILE WEARING EYELASH EXTENSIONS?
You may swim, shower, and sweat with your lashes. However, keep in mind it may affect the lash retention and may require to come sooner for a refill as water, salt, sweat, and heat contributes to lash fallout.
Lash Lift & Tint
WHAT IS A LASH LIFT & TINT?
Similar to a perm, a lash lift safely lifts the natural lashes while the tint darkens the hairs. Lasts up to 6-8 week and results in a natural mascara look. Great for those who want to enhance their eyes without the cost and maintenance of extensions.
HOW LONG IS THE PROCEDURE?
Expect to be laying down with your eyes closed for 1 hour.
AM I A CANDIDATE?
You may get a lash lift & tint if you have healthy natural lashes of at least 9mm in length. The procedure is contraindicated to those pregnant/nursing, have an active eye infection, have trichotillomania (habit of pulling lashes) and recently or undergoing chemotherapy (you should wait at least 1 year from your last treatment, it is best to consult with your physician before.
DOES THE PROCEDURE HURT?
You may feel some warmth and tingling from the solutions and the glue used however, the procedure should never hurt. If you feel any discomfort during your appointment, please let your lash artist know.
CAN I GET MY LASHES WET AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
Avoid getting your lashes wet for the first 24 hours, after this period you may continue your regular routine.
CAN I WEAR MASCARA?
Yes! However keep in mind, the more you wash your lashes, the sooner they may de-lift. Avoid waterproof mascara as the chemicals in them can be harsh and drying, which may result in weakened lashes that are prone to breaking.
WHY SHOULD I AVOID WATERPROOF MASCARA 2 DAYS BEFORE THE PROCEDURE?
To allow your lashes to rest. As stated above, you would be coming in with already weakened lashes that would be prone to breakage.
I RECENTLY HAD LASIK SURGERY, CAN I GET THIS DONE?
Yes, after 6 months. It is best to consult with your physician before.
WILL THIS DAMAGE MY NATURAL LASHES?
While dryness is common after a lash lift, when properly performed, it will not damage your lashes. It is important to follow the pre and post care instructions to maintain the integrity of your lashes.
WILL I HAVE A REACTION TO THE SOLUTION?
Very few people have a reaction to the lotion but that doesn’t mean you won’t be one of them. A patch test can be done beforehand. It consists of applying 2 drops of lotions behind the ear for 15 minutes. Wiping it off and waiting to see if any subsequent irritation occurs over the next 24 hours such as redness, itching or inflammation for example.
CAN I WEAR CONTACT LENSES DURING THE PROCEDURE?
You will be asked to remove them before treatment.
CAN I GET EXTENSIONS WHILE MY LASHES ARE LIFTED?
Yes! However, it is best to wait 2 to 3 weeks after your lash lift & tint.
